Summary
One of the three boroughs (bilad-i selase, bilād-i thelāthe) of Ottoman Istanbul alongside Galata and Üsküdar, the town of Eyüp , centred on the shrine complex of Ebu Eyüb el-Ensari (Abū Ayyūb al-Anṣārī), lay to the northwest of the walled city of Istanbul, on the Golden Horn. Eyüp was also the centre of the Hāslar Kazası (Khāṣlar Qaḍāsı) , Istanbul’s largely agricultural hinterland that stretched between the Sea of Marmara to the south and Arnavutköy to the north, and which was administered by its own legal court.
