Ghazāla ʿAlīzāda (1947–96) was born in Mashhad, the only child of a wealthy family. Her father was a merchant and her mother a writer who hosted literary circles with prominent writers of the time. ʿAlīzāda studied at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of Tehran University, and in Paris.
