Summary
This well-known text provides guidelines for over 50 common nursing procedures carried out by carers in a variety of settings. The development of competence in these practices is one of the most important aspects of pre-registration programmes, and this is one of the few UK-based texts that takes an educational approach to these practices as opposed to a purely procedure-driven approach. As in previous editions, the emphasis is on a holistic approach with the recognition that each patient is a unique individual. This is illustrated by linking each practice to the Roper, Logan and Tierney model of nursing which is the one students are most likely to encounter in their clinical placements. Where appropriate, other models are reflected in the text. As well as being invaluable for pre-registration students, this book is a useful source of information for nurses returning to practice after a career break, other health-care professionals, hospitals, GP practices, community units, nursing homes and carers. It.
Is also a useful reference for staff involved in teaching in clinical settings.
