- Full title :Derrida : writing events / Simon Morgan Wortham.
Summary
"Derrida wrote a vast array of texts for numerous events across the world, responding each time to particular invitations. He also authored works that portray him as something of a traveller. As a powerfully idiomatic writer who nonetheless felt tied to a language that was not his own, and a figure strongly interested in the singularity of the literary or philosophical event, Derrida emerges as one whose thought always and only arrives on occasion. But how are we to understand the event itself in Derrida's thought? How are we to reconcile the importance, for Derrida, of the unanticipatable occurrence with deconstruction's critical and philosophical rigour?
This book asks how deconstruction thinks of writing the event, how it understands the archive and impression of the event, and argues that the negotiation this entails calls for a reformulation of a whole variety of questions that we associate with historical enquiry, ethical and political responsibility, topical commentary and intellectual commitment, teaching, the evaluation of academic work, obsession, friendship, and even love."--Jacket.
