Summary
The purpose of this quantitative quasi-experiment study is to explore what, if any, statistical difference exists between STaR Chart Survey scores in the area of teaching and learning, educator preparation and development, leadership, administration and instructional support, and infrastructure for technology of core subject teachers—reading, English, math, science, and history—before and after the implementation of Chromebooks. Puentedura’s SAMR Model provided the theoretical framework within which this study was conducted. The study was conducted in a large metropolitan community in a district located in Southwest Texas, with middle school teachers from core subjects in sixth through eighth grade. Responses were gathered from 234 teachers using the STaR Chart Survey scores. The analysis was conducted through a t-test. In all four research questions, the null hypothesis, that the implementation of Chromebooks would not result in a significant change in STaR Chart survey scores, was rejected. One can conclude from the statistical analysis that implementation of Chromebooks in all core subject classrooms resulted in higher scores on STaR Chart survey items pertaining to the four variables in this study. For RQ1, pre-implementation scores were significantly lower, m = 12.18 than post-implementation scores, m = 16.57. For RQ2, pre-implementation scores were significantly lower, m = 9.50 than post-implementation scores, m = 15.21. For RQ3, pre-implementation scores were significantly lower, m = 12.30 than post-implementation scores, m = 17.17. For RQ4, pre-implementation scores were significantly lower, m = 9.79 than post-implementation scores, m = 17.
