Summary
Many of the most pervasive presentations of Christianity in our contemporary culture seems to fail to uphold the Great Commandment or the fundamental message in Leviticus 19:18. This has contributed to a mass exodus of people leaving the Christian faith. Recent polls reveal that Religion is in decline in the United States. For the first time, the percentage of the population belonging to a church has dropped below 50 percent, down from 70 percent in 1999. The number of people identifying as nonreligious has also grown, with more than a third of Americans under the age of 30 identifying themselves as “none.” This project reveals that the historical and contemporary failure of the Christian faith to disciple believers who live out the Great Commandment is largely due to an inadequate grasp and application of the main truths and themes of the Bible. In order to address this a new interpretive lens that is biblically congruent is needed to help people better understand the love of God and live from that place of love in a way that reaches out to others with that same love.
