Summary

EMET is a multi-genre novel that combines history, creation myths, and well-known literature. This excerpt contains a large portion of the full novel and follows a group of angels who fell to earth and their subsequent effects on the world as we know it. Divided into two timelines, the novel examines how storytelling and language evolve through the act of retelling. The first timeline is informed by research into more than fifty creation myths from various cultures and eras, with the primary influences pulled from Judeo-Christian, Native American, and early European myths. The use of ancient Hebrew was made possible by cross referencing the database of Strong’s Number with work done by Jeff Benner. The second timeline includes real historical places and events based on research completed with the aid of the CofC library, web archives, and historical fiction. Additional research information was obtained through walking tours and conversations with historians in Dublin and Galway, Ireland. The resulting novel seeks to entertain while also prompting questions of identity, new beginnings, and the potential costs of finding satisfaction in our individual lives.
