Summary
Every Christian should be growing spiritually throughout his life until his Lord takes him home to heaven to be forever in fellowship with Christ. Discipleship and Christian growth should be the norm for believers, but church leaders have not found this to be the case. A discipleship manual for growing Christians should reach believers where they are spiritually and academically, then take them to Scripture to teach them how to grow in Christ. Learners have changed over the past several years; therefore, they need discipleship material designed for them. Authors and teachers must take care to meet the discipleship needs of believers with shorter attention spans and poorer reading skills. To keep the learners engaged, discipleship material should be highly interactive and should use language that is as simple as can be utilized without compromising the doctrine being taught. Academic skills many times do improve as believers seriously study the Bible, but this cannot be the primary focus of discipleship training material. In addition, all discipleship material should teach the growing believer that the Bible is the place to go for answers and direction in life. Using the Bible while teaching discipleship is obviously the best way to accomplish this goal. This discipleship manual is offered prayerfully with the ambitious goal that it will help immature Christians grow spiritually and be used by disciple makers in many churches to help the believers they teach to grow spiritually and become disciple makers.
