Summary
While missionaries are generally expected to design ministry models to strategically engage with the cultures in which they minister, many churches in the West have not reconsidered their forms or structures to best fit the contexts in which they minister. Western society once shared many of the assumptions and worldviews of the church, but now the culture has diverted significantly. If the church is to fulfill its mandate to make disciples, there needs to be serious, strategic, and holistic missional engagement. In a Christendom culture, the church enjoyed a place of prestige and power in society, and it developed ministry in forms that fit that context. Many of these forms may not be as suited for a culture that has a less favorable opinion of religion.
