Background: Competitive cheerleaders may be at risk of suffering from the Female Athlete Triad (Triad) but there is limited current research available. The purpose was to examine individual and combined Triad components (low energy availability (LEA) with or without an eating di…
Previous literature has indicated that individuals with a history of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) are less likely to be active, may experience negative changes in weight status, and may have reduced cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) following surgery as compare…
Concussion has been linked to an increased risk of lower extremity injury. It is hypothesized that residual postural control deficits due to delays in central processing speed or sensory reweighting are responsible for the increased risk. The purpose of this study was to evaluat…
The kynurenine pathway of tryptophan degradation is the focus in a variety of research fieldsand several of the metabolites produced along the pathway are suggested as future biomarkers.Growing interest in a better understanding of the physiological and the pathophysiologicalimp…
The purpose of this investigation was to identify the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the physical activity, mood, and motivation in Division II collegiate athletes. Thirty-seven Indiana University of Pennsylvania division II collegiate athletes participated in the present s…
Life history theory dictates that organisms should precisely allocate investment of their limited resources, including energy, to a variety of tasks to serve natural selection’s ultimate goal: reproduction. In adolescence, menarche occurs as growth velocity is tapering off, prov…
Division I college athletics represents the pinnacle of amateur sports. With the high level of physical demand athletes endure, injuries are a common occurrence. To assist the athletes with their return to play, athletic trainers (ATs) provide orthopedic evaluation and diagnosis…

The female menstrual cycle is inherently complex and there is great diversity in the hormonal profiles that maintain and govern the seemingly normal female reproductive cycle. Female sex hormones are linked to a breadth of physiological and psychological health mechanisms, yet t…
Low energy availability (EA), a mismatch between caloric energy intake and exercise energy expenditure, underpins the ten physiological and psychological consequences of the Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) framework. This framework expands on the Female Athlete Triad…
Cancer survivors may experience adverse health effects (e.g., fatigue, anxiety, depression) even after cancer treatment is completed. Physical activity is one way cancer survivors may suppress or treat these side effects. Despite the known benefits, nearly 82% of cancer survivor…
Second injury risk following concussion merits improved return to play assessments. Two studies examined deficits in athletes with a concussion history (Cx): 1) a secondary analysis to investigate an area under the curve (AUC) assessment for cognitive recall; 2) a dual-task para…
Anterior cruciate ligament injury and surgical reconstruction (ACLR) increases the risk of sustaining secondary injury in athletes returning to cutting and pivoting field sports. Changes in how an athlete loads each limb during sport-specific movements is thought to be a risk fa…
